To ensure a smooth submission process, authors are required to adhere to specific guidelines outlined by the journal. This article serves as a comprehensive guide, breaking down the submission process into manageable steps based on my experience in submitting paper to IEEE TII from December 2022 to March 2023, until get first decision.
1. Preparation
Obtain Instructions and Manuscript Template
Authors are advised to download the instructions document and the manuscript template from the TII website. The author emphasizes the importance of thoroughly reviewing the instructions document and utilizing the provided manuscript template. These documents provide crucial information on formatting, citation styles, and other essential guidelines for manuscript preparation, contributing significantly to a successful submission.
TII Checklist
Drawing from personal experience, before initiating the submission process, authors must review the TII checklist for new manuscript submissions. This checklist ensures that all necessary components are included in the submission package. It is imperative that authors follow this checklist diligently to avoid delays in the review process.
2. Manuscript Submission Process
Create an Account on ScholarOne® Manuscripts
Authors who do not have an existing account on ScholarOne® Manuscripts should create one by visiting the web address http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/tii. This account will serve as the central hub for managing the submission process.
Once the account is created, authors should log in and go to the Author Center. Here, they will find the option to “Submit First Draft of a New Manuscript.” Clicking on this option initiates the submission process.
Select Subject and Complete Steps
Based on my experience, selecting the appropriate subject from the pull-down list is crucial for a seamless review process. Authors will be prompted to select the subject of their manuscript from a pull-down list. It is essential to choose the most relevant category to streamline the review process. The submission process consists of several steps, and authors must complete each step in sequence. After completing each step, remember to click “Save and Continue” to ensure progress is recorded.
Confirm Submission
Simply uploading the paper is not enough. After completing the final step, authors should receive a confirmation that the submission is complete. It is crucial to verify this confirmation to ensure that the manuscript has been successfully submitted. Additionally, authors will receive an email confirmation as another layer of assurance.
Detailed Instructions in S1M Training Area
For authors seeking more detailed instructions or facing any challenges during the submission process, the S1M Training Area provides additional resources and support. The ScholarOne have been provided video tutorial and guidelines for your references. Here, I prepare the Author Guide and you can easily download below:

3. Submission Files
Main Manuscript
The primary document submitted should adhere to the TII manuscript template and contain no author names or affiliations to ensure a blind review process. Authors must carefully format their manuscripts according to the guidelines provided. The main manuscript, submitted without author names or affiliations.
Cover Letter
A well-crafted cover letter should accompany the main manuscript. This letter serves as an introduction to the submission, providing context, and highlighting the significance of the research. This cover letter will read by Editors in the first way, so you may make it as convincing as possible.

Anonymity
All files, including the main manuscript and cover letter, must exclude author names and affiliations. This anonymity ensures an unbiased review process, focusing solely on the quality and merit of the research.
4. Review Status
I submit the manuscript on December 22, 2023 and get the first decissoon on March 28, 2023. Therefore, we need approximately 3 months from the first submission into first decission. Based on my experiences, this is the review step and status until we get the first decission.
- EIC Office: Upon submission, manuscripts enter the Editor-in-Chief’s (EICs) office for initial processing.
- Assigned to AE: The manuscript is then assigned to an Associate Editor (AE) who oversees the review process.
- AE Invites Reviewers: The AE identifies and invites suitable reviewers for the manuscript, ensuring expertise in the relevant subject matter.
- AE Assigns Reviewers: Once reviewers accept the invitation, the AE assigns them to assess the manuscript critically.
- Under Review: The manuscript is actively being reviewed by the assigned experts.
- Awaiting AE Decision: Following the reviews, the AE evaluates the feedback and makes a decision regarding the manuscript.
- Awaiting EIC Decision: If necessary, the AE forwards the decision to the Editor-in-Chief (EIC) for approval, revision, or rejection.
Monitoring Progress
Authors are encouraged to monitor the status of their manuscript. If no progress is observed for a month or more, contacting the Editor-in-Chief is advised. Based on my personal experience, my submission process goes smoothly without any long delays. I hope everyone who submit on this journal will remain the same.
In conclusion, navigating the submission process for IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics based on my experiences from 2022 to 2033 requires attention to detail and adherence to guidelines. By following these steps, authors can contribute to the journal’s commitment to excellence and innovation in industrial informatics.
